Backflow testing with Quality Service Plumbing Meridian.

Why Testing Your Backflow Important?

A backflow preventer is a device that is installed on your home's water system that allows water to flow in one direction but never in the opposite direction. The main purpose of a backflow preventer is to prevent drinking water from being contaminated due to backflow.  Which is why backflow testing is so important.

Backflow occurs when any change in the pressure of the water supply has the potential to allow for contaminated water to move back out through the public supply. There are two ways this can happen:

  • Back-siphonage – This occurs when there is a vacuum in the water supply, such as a main water line break, that sucks a source of contaminated water the wrong way through the supply pipes.
  • Back-pressure – This occurs when the pressure of a non-potable system reaches a higher pressure than the water supply, forcing the non-potable liquid back through the water pipes.

Needing your backflow tested?  Call Quality Service Plumbing Meridian-  208-866-7903.
